First Year
Fáilte go Rang a Sé! This is our last year together in Harold Boys’ National School. We are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch! We love science and all things sport related. We are looking forward to our school trips this term.


Heat
Rang a 3 are learning about Heat. We predicted and measured 3 different temperatures around the school. We learnt about what makes good conductors and insulators.


Titanic
We are learning all about the Titanic at the moment. We are busy constructing Titanics in groups.


National Spring Clean
Rang a 3 enjoyed litter picking on Castle Street this Tuesday.


Alan Nolan
Rang a 3 went to a talk with Alan Nolan in Dalkey library on Monday. He was brilliant. He had inspired our writing and drawing.


Annual Spring Clean
We had a great time picking litter for our annual spring clean. Each class covered a different area of Dalkey, so we had a great spread across our locality. Well done for keeping our town tidy boys!


Geography: Caring for our local area
Second class did a great job for this year’s National Spring Clean, up and down St. Patrick’s Road. Well done boys!


Science: The Water Cycle
A great way to visualise the water cycle in action in our classroom!


Active School Week: Staff vs Sixth Class Basketball Match
The much-anticipated annual clash, between the sixth class boys and the staff was a great spectacle. Well done to all who took part, particularly to the staff who narrowly won by 17-16.


Active School Week: Orienteering
Many thanks to Ms. Crowley for setting up a scavenger hunt around the school to find letters, that made a ten-letter word!


Active School Week: Penalty Shoot Out
Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s penalty shoot out. And in particular, to the two finalists who made it through to Friday’s final - maith sibh!


Active School Week: Killiney Hill
The boys had a great day up Killiney Hill to kickstart Active School Week 2026.


Seapoint Blitz
We had a fabulous Monday playing rugby in Kilbogget park with lots of other local schools at the Seapoint Blitz!


Penalty Shootout Final
The boys had a super time in the annual penalty shootout for Active Week! Congratulations to the boys who got through to the final round from each class and a special congratulations to our fifth class pupil who was the overall winner!


Staff v Rang a Sé Basketball Match
The boys had a fantastic time cheering on Rang a Sé as they went head-to-head with staff in our annual basketball match for Active Week! Well done to Rang a Sé who played brilliantly - and a special congratulations to the staff team who managed to pip them at the post for a very close 17 - 16 point win!


Binning It Better
This week our Green Schools committee had the opportunity to test their skills and brush up their knowledge of rubbish sorting and responsible recycling through the ‘Bin it Better’ workshop. The boys impressed our visitor with their existing knowledge and learned a lot about how they can encourage people around them at home and in school to “Bin it Better”. Well done boys!


Penalty shoot out
The whole school completed in a penalty shoot out on Tuesday. Two boys from every class will compete in the final on Friday.


PAWS (Primary Aquatic Water Safety)
3rd class were delighted to complete their PAWS course this week. Maith sibh buachaillí.


Great start to active week!
Rang a 4 enjoyed their annual trip to Killiney Hill for active week. It was a brilliant and sunny day which made the slip n slide extra fun!!☀️


Active Day
The whole school really enjoyed 'Active Day' today. We were so lucky with the weather! Activities included; tag rugby, den building, archery, team building, balancing and the slip and slide.


Show and Tell
On Friday we had three super show and tells.


Easter Poetry Competition 2026

ASW is coming!
Active School Week is coming! Here are the details.


What clubs are you in?
In our recent ASF survey we could see that our students are heavily involved in sports with outside clubs. At Harold Boys' N. S. we think this is fantastic and want to continue to encourage outside school sports and develop links with these clubs where possible.
ASF Parent Survey
The results are in for our Active School Flag parent survey. Thank you to the 30 parents who completed it. The headlines are: 60% of parents said they do not get enough information about their child's progress in PE. Teachers will ensure to give more feedback on PE at PT meetings. Only 33% of parents said that their child received PE homework. Teachers will give an activity sheet every Wednesday that must be signed by parents. 73% of parents have not visited our ASF page. We


ASF Student Survey
The results are in for our Active School Flag student survey. Thank you to the 100 students for completing it! The headlines are: 1. While 89% enjoy PE there is less enthusiasm for Gymnastics and Dance. So we will work to try and encourage these. While almost 50% enjoy PE homework 12% are not getting any. We will make sure each class ticks off an active activity every Wednesday. Only 30% of students said they visited our ASF page. We will promote it and ask the students to ch

Budding Poets
A special congratulations to our Easter poetry competition winners in Rang a Cúig! These boys worked hard to produce beautiful poetry inspired by Spring and Easter - and their hard work paid off! Maith sibh a bhuachaillí. Keep writing!


Easter Hunt
The boys made beautiful Easter Baskets. They came in handy for their scavenger hunt, looking for chocolate eggs hidden in our school garden.


Creating Crystals
We had a great trip to the Lexicon in Dún Laoghaire today where we learned all about crystals and how to make them! Watch this space as we develop our crystals in the classroom!


Cuala
For rang a 3's Friday minutes we went to Cuala! It was such a treat in the sun!


George's Marvellous Medicine
3rd class loved reading George's Marvellous Medicine. The boys completed all their work on the novel in their own mini books.


Picasso Faces
3rd class created faces inspired by Picasso!


World Book Day Cover Winners
The boys loved creating their world book day covers. Here are the winners. Maith sibh buachaillí.


Forces Fun
Rang a Cúig have been exploring forces in science this week and got very creative with some match sticks and blue tack. The boys were challenged to make a structure that could withstand the full force of a human hand, a water bottle and even a stack of books!


Creative Construction
Rang a Cúig had a great time creating unique and imaginative structures from just craft straws, masking tape and cardboard. Every build was different and the boys let their creativity run wild.


Book Cover Competition
Every year at HBNS we hold a book cover Art competition for World Book Day. Congratulations to these three boys who are this year’s worthy winners.


Seachtain na Gaeilge
I Rang a Ceathair, bhaineamar an-sult as Seachtain na Gaeilge! Ghlacamar páirt i dtráth na gceist, rinneamar póstaeir de sheanfhocail, agus d’imríomar cluichí trí Ghaeilge. D’éisteamar leis an amhrán náisiúnta freisin agus bhain muid taitneamh as go leor gníomhaíochtaí eile. Seachtain iontach lán le spraoi agus foghlaim a bhí ann!


Healthy Eating Workshop with Rang a Sé🥦🥕
A big thank you to Ms.O’Carroll and the boys in Rang a Sé for doing a healthy eating workshop with us. The boys enjoyed writing short narratives about Victor the Vegetable and tasting delicious smoothies too.


Vex Robotics 2026
Our Sixth Class represented our school so well at the Vex Robotics Regional Competition in St. Mark's National School in Tallaght on 10th February. They also had great fun!! This was the result of months of preparation: building and programming the robots and practising their driving skills. Brilliant teamwork boys, well done!


Christmas Carols
We had an amazing fundraiser in the Heritage Centre, Dalkey before Christmas. The boys were fantastic and looked very festive!

The boys are loving playing Cé Mise!


World Book Day Walkway
A world book day walkway was set up around the school. The boys had fun reading famous quotes from books while being active.


Active lines
Every Wednesday the active committee run active lines before coming in from big yard. It's great to see the whole school so active.
