First Year
Fáilte go Rang a Sé! This is our last year together in Harold Boys’ National School. We are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch! We love science and all things sport related. We are looking forward to our school trips this term.


Masters of Research
This month Rang a Cúig worked on explanation writing with a focus on famine. The boys learned a lot and using the Chrome Books, they led their own research on how famines occur as well as looking into some of the most notorious famines in history. They then used their research to put together some impressive group projects!


Designing Rollercoasters
Rang a cúig had a fab time designing and custom building rollercoasters using card and tape. After building, the boys tested their rollercoasters using a marble.


Aboriginal art
3rd class enjoyed experimenting with aboriginal dot painting this week.


Playground leaders
Our Active School Flag committee are the school's playground leaders every Wednesday. They are in charge of checking everyone is following the yard rules and running our active lines.


Game time
On Fridays rang a 3 have game time as a treat. We now have a pool table and table tennis in our classroom!


Rang a 3 enjoyed exploring print this week through free play. They worked in pairs to make print patterns.


Active School Walkway
This week the boys enjoyed using the Active School Walkway. At each of the 14 stations around the school grounds there was a Dingbats puzzle to solve. The winner was the pair that solved the most correctly. It was a fun activity and got everyone moving! The boys are looking forward to doing it again soon.


Christmas Play
3rd class loved performing in their Christmas play this year. We hope you all enjoyed it. Maith sibh buachaillí.


Viking Project
3rd class loved completing their group projects on the Vikings. They are on display in the hall. Maith sibh buachaillí.
Active Advent Calendar
The active commitee were busy this month promoting our Active Advent calendar. They went around to each class in the school to announce and demonstrate the active movement for the day. It was a great success.


Christmas Play
Nollaig Shona ó rang a cúig! We had a blast auditioning for our parts, learning our lines rehearsing and performing our Christmas play for our parents, extended family and friends. Our hard work over the past weeks really paid off. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí!


First pen licenses awarded!
Congratulations to our two Rang a Ceathair boys who proudly earned the very first pen licenses in the class! Their excellent handwriting, neat work and consistent effort have truly paid off. Well done - keep up the great work!


Building Motte and Bailey castles!
Rang a ceathair spent the last three weeks bringing history to life by building Motte and Bailey castles using recyclable materials in art. After learning about the Normans, they worked in groups to design and create fantastic mini medieval worlds. It was a huge success!

Recycled Christmas Decorations
Well done to all the boys who made a recycled Christmas decoration for the DLR competition. They look fantastic!


Maths: Addition
Our Dienes Blocks really help us visualise the numbers when we’re adding two-digit numbers together.


The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark
We recently finished our first novel, The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson. The boys made their own clay owls, which now have their own nest in our classroom.

Science - Germ Experiment
This test was a very effective way to show the importance of hand washing!

We watched as the gummy bear grew in water over a few days. This process is known as osmosis.

Science Week - Magic Milk
The boys watched the reaction when they dipped a cotton bud with washing up liquid into milk & food dye.


Science Week - Light
The boys have been learning about light and how different items can be transparent, translucent or opaque. They tested some items in the classroom using torches.


Science Week - Rainbow Spinners
The boys made rainbow spinners to show how the colours of the rainbow can merge together to make white light. Great job boys!


Cress Seed Experiment
We placed cress seeds in two different cups, marked ‘A’ & ‘B’. Both cups had cotton wool and water. The only difference was light exposure; we put Cup A on the windowsill and Cup B in the cupboard. The results were very interesting!


Thirsty Celery
A great experiment to show how plants drink water.


Scary Cake Competition
The boys made terrifying cakes this year for our annual scary cake competition. The judges had a tough decision choosing the winners!


Spooky Poetry Recital
Congratulations to this boy who won this year’s spooky poetry recital in Rang a Dó. The boys learnt a variety of poems - Witch Witch, It’s Halloween, Skeleton Parade & Happy Halloween .


Walk to School Week 2025
There was a fantastic turn out, on 15th October, at our weekly WOW ( Walk on Wednesday ) from Cuala for National Walk to School Week. Well done boys!


GOAL Jersey Day
Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s GOAL Jersey Day on Friday, 10th October. We managed to raise €200 for such a great cause!


Skipping
The boys are enjoying using our schools’ new skipping ropes. Each week they are getting better and better!


Christmas Carols
We are enjoying rehearsing for our upcoming Christmas Carol Concert.


History week
Rang a 3 really enjoyed history week. Lots of the boys brought in artefacts and joined the whole school history timeline in the yard.


SNA Appreciation Day
We are so lucky, at Harold Boys’ N.S., to have so many wonderful SNAs. It was nice to show them how much we appreciate their work on 25th September.


National History Museum Trip
The 4th class had a fantastic day visiting the National History Museum, exploring exciting exhibits and discovering fascinating facts about the past. Everyone enjoyed the trip and came home full of stories and new knowledge.


Hockey
We have started playing hockey this year. Our coach Ben from Avoca hockey club taught us lots of new skills and we really enjoyed playing a new sport.


Art Work
Every Friday we do Art. The boys have made some great pieces so far this year.


Friendship Week
The boys did a great job making friendship bracelets with Rang a Sé, using loom bands.


Local Fieldtrip
We recently explored our local area - Dalkey.


Library Visits
We are lucky to have Dalkey Library right on our doorstep. We, in second class, go up every second week to borrow and return books.


Friendship Week
We had a great debate with third class. The motion was Homework Should be Banned . Both classes made great arguments. Maith sibh!

Welcome to all of our new boys in second class.


Walk to School Week 2025
Well done to all the boys who participated in Walk to School Week 2025! The boys ditched their cars this week and opted to walk, cycle, scoot or park-and-stride to make the most of the dry Autumn weather and help the environment while they were at it. Our Green Schools committee kept a record of the boys who walked each day and compiled our data in a colourful bar chart. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí!


Eardrum Experiment
Rang a cúig got Science Week 2025 off to a flying start by creating eardrum replicas to explore how sound waves cause the eardrum to vibrate. We have had lots of fun learning about the human ear and sound. Stay tuned to see what exciting experiments we explore next!


Building Bridges
Rang a cúig had a blast planning and creating some fabulous bridges using only dry spaghetti and glue. The boys put on their STEM thinking caps and came up with some exciting designs before bringing their bridges to life and testing their durability using a bucket filled with sand! We definitely have some future engineers in our midst!


Scary Cakes!
The boys had lots of fun making their scary cakes and showing off their creativity for our annual Scary Cake competition. Well done to everyone who entered the competition and a special comhghairdeas to our class winner and overall school winner. Maith sibh!
