Seagull Chicks
Three seagull chicks are taking shelter from the heat on the school roof. An amazing sight to see!

Sandycove Beach
Today went went to visit the James Joyce tower and made sandcastles on the Sandycove beach. A lovely second last day for rang a 3!


Amhrán na gCupán
Rang a 3 have been busy learning the cup song as Gaeilge. We even learnt how to move the cup in time to the music. Maith sibh rang a 3!


The Talent Show
The talent show was a great success this year. The entries from rang a 3 were super!


Talent Show
Congratulations to all the boys from Rang a Cúig who entered the talent show this year! We certainly have a talented class and it’s not always easy to stand up in front of the whole school to show it off. A special congratulations to one of our boys from Rang a Cúig who came in joint third place!

Teddy Bear Picnic
With summer just around the corner, the boys brought their teddy bears to school for a picnic up Killiney Hill. The playground was great fun too!

The boys’ creativity was very impressive for the sandcastle competition at our local beach, Sandycove.

Seashore study 2026
Rang a 4 had a lovely day for the annual 4th class seashore study day to Sandycove. The boys found plants and animals in the sea and around the rocks to complete their worksheets, made sandcastles and went for a quick tour to the James Joyce tower. It was such a fun day with sunny weather!!

We were so lucky to have a visit from 3 kittens this week.


Cooperative squares
We are learning all about cooperation. The boys loved working together to solve puzzles.


Active Week
Active week is part of our annual school calendar. It is accessible to all pupils and invites suggestions from pupils and parents. Students can wear tracksuits for the week, physical activity replaces homework, active walkway, active day up Killiney hill, 6th class v staff basketball match and much more.


Partnerships
Our school likes to communicate all things active with parents and guardians. This year we met with our Local Sports Partnership and Sports Inclusion Officer to get their support and advice. We have a super committee and Active Slogan. Here is our notice board.


Physical Activity
Our staff are always trying to increase physical activity across the school day. We have twice daily playground breaks, access to sports equipment, playground leaders, active school walkway, whole school active break challenges and much more.


Physical Education
Harold Boys' N.S. teaches all strands of PE including 6 weeks of aquatics.. This year we focused on improving our gymnastics strand and worked on the fundamental movement skills of walking, running, hopping and skipping. All pupils receive PE homework on Wednesdays.


Dalkey Dashers
Many Harold Boys' students were involved in the community games at Santry over the weekend. We are so proud of their achievements. Maith sibh buachaillí!


Pop art
Using Roy Lichtenstein as our inspiration the boys designed Pop Art names.


Parachutes
The boys designed and made parachutes for their Legomen.


Cooperative games
Lots of team work was needed for this game!


Scríobh Leabhar
Rang a 3's Scríobh Leabhar winner was presented with a medal on Monday night at Killiney Castle.


Superhero workshop with Alan Nolan
Rang a 3 loved their design their own superhero workshop with Alan Nolan this week.


Chess News
Well done to the boys on our schools’ chess team. They represented our school so well at a recent chess tournament at St. Michael’s. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí!


Sports Day
Second class enjoyed their first ever Sports Day at Harold Boys’. Everyone had a great day at Cuala, we were very lucky with the weather.


PE equipment
We are lucky to have so much PE Equipment at HBNS. All clearly labelled ready for use!


Active Homework
Each class gets PE homework every Wednesday. One of the boys from second class was the first to complete this sheet and he was rewarded with a prize!


Swimming Champion
One of our students is a swimming champion. We are so proud of him.


Our Active School Flag Committee
Our committee has two representatives from every class. They meet once a month to discuss ways our school can be more active. They are playground leaders as well as communicators pf all things active in the school.


Sports Day 2026
Rang a 3 loved Sports day this year. We were very lucky with the weather. We had a great mixture of races; flat race, potato and spoon race, wheel barrow race, three legged race, chin race, weekend race and lots more. There was a medal ceremony and ice pops for everyone at the end.

We had a fantastic time at our sports day today! We won lots of medals, had lots of fun and we were blessed with sunshine!


Baltinglass
Rang a 3 had a super school trip in Baltinglass yesterday. The boys did archery, kayaking, rock climbing. zip lining and orienteering.


School Tour to Baltinglass
Everyone enjoyed all of the activities on offer at Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre - kayaking, archery, orienteering, climbing, abseiling & zip-lining.

Second & third class went on their school tour to Baltinglass. The boys had such fun kayaking in the river!


Wellbeing Week: Teddy’s Ice-Cream
What a way to end Wellbeing Week - a visit from the famous Teddy’s ice-cream van.

An annual highlight in the HBNS calendar! Second class really enjoyed their first show with Dave & his animals.

We were delighted to see the Teddy's Ice Cream truck pull up outside our school on sunny Friday afternoon. What a treat!


Soccerthon
We loved having our Soccerthon this Wednesday. Thanks to Ms. Breen for reffing and to Ms. Fry for the refreshments afterwards.


Dave's Jungle
We loved having Dave's Jungle come into visit our school this week.


Literature Festival
Last Wednesday 3rd class went to the literature festival in Merrion Square. We attended a highlly engaging talk/workshop with Aoife Dooley author of Squid Squad.


Baltinglass school tour!
Rang a ceathair had a superb day at their school tour in Baltinglass! We had perfect weather and enjoyed all the activities which included archery, kayaking, zip lining, rock climbing and orienteering.


Wellbeing week: Dave’s Jungle
Rang a ceathair are enjoying all the activities for wellbeing week! We are so lucky to experience Dave’s Jungle again this year … in our school hall! From frogs to a snapping turtle, it was amazing!


Literature Festival 2026
Rang a 4 boys enjoyed their annual trip to the International Literature Festival in Merrion Square Park. We loved listening to the author, Shane Hegarty, talking about the process of writing his new book. We enjoyed eating food and having play time afterwards on the grass!


Rang a 4 cinema trip!
Rang a 4 boys have been working so hard lately and deserved a trip to the cinema as a reward! We went to Dun Laoghaire IMC to see the new Super Mario Galaxy movie!


Green Flag Number 8
On Tuesday, some representatives of our Green Schools Committee travelled to The Helix to attend the National Green Flag awards ceremony. Here, the boys were presented with our 8th Green Flag for Global Citizenship: Marine Environment. Our committee have worked very hard for the last two years for this flag and their work certainly paid off! Well done boys!


International Literature Festival
The boys really enjoyed the workshop with author, Aoife Dooley, in Merrion Square Park.
