Voluntary Contributions are still being sent in. Many thanks to all who have paid so far. With rising costs, funds are needed now more than ever.

Uniform: Please ensure that your son wears his full uniform to school. Ties may be purchased from the school office for €2.50.

Policies: The following policies were ratified at the April meeting of the Board of Management: Anti-Bullying, Health & Safety, Hire & Use of School Premises, Work Experience, Guidelines for Student Teachers & Others Working in Harold Boys’ N.S.

Green Schools News: We are delighted to announce that Harold Boys’ N.S has been awarded its fifth Green Flag this year for our work on biodiversity. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our work on the biodiversity theme both in the school and in Dalkey community, especially our Green Schools committee. The National Green Flag awards ceremony will be held on the 23rd May at The Helix where we will collect our biodiversity flag. Stagecraft Poetry Festival 2018: 19 pupils from Harold Boys’ N.S. represented the school at the recent Festival. All of them took home awards including 4 medals. This festival has been running for over 20 years and attracts more than 700 entries from over 20 local schools. The ability to perform a poem in public helps instil confidence, self-esteem and communication skills. These qualities are more important now than ever. Well done to all.

Chess News: Well done to our school’s chess team; Captain Ronan Prior, Diarmuid Power, Cathal Power and Luca Rizzi, who played in the finals of the Leinster Schools Chess Competition on Saturday 21st April. The team were in Division 2 and they achieved their objective of promotion to Division 1, by beating Gorey A in the semi-final 4 – 0. Unfortunately the team was narrowly beaten in the final by Carysfort 2.5 – 1.5.

Sports News:

Swimming: Congratulations to Rang a 6 who raised €587 from their sponsored swim for The Irish Cancer Society. Boys in third class are enjoying their swimming lessons at the moment. Second class will begin their lessons on Thursday 17th May.

Tennis: Well done to the tennis team – Ronan Prior, Harry Brereton, Luca Ciobanu, Jamie Murray, Conor Broderick, Alex Mihalec, Leo Skinner, Jack Gatti and Noah O’Regan who represented the school in the Leinster Tennis Spring League.

Dance Workshops: Fifth Class took part in three Dance Workshops with Robert Connor of Dance Theatre Ireland. These classes took place in our school hall and in the Dance Studio in Dun Laoghaire. They were thoroughly enjoyed by the boys. Thanks Robert! Many thanks also to our Parents’ Association who funded the dance classes.
