Newsletter January 2018

Voluntary Contributions: Many thanks to all who have contributed so far this year. It is much appreciated.

Science Open Evening: On January 30th 2018 we will be holding our Science Open Evening as part of our Discover Primary Science Award of STEM Excellence Project. Please come along and see our science exhibitions on display in each classroom.

Christmas Cards: Every boy designed a card and was able to order a complete set of his own design. These proved very popular and raised €1,360 for the Parents’ Association. We look forward to this again next year.

Road Safety outside the School: You can help in the following ways:
• Comply with the Voluntary One-Way System. Please drive in the direction of
Castle St. to Carysfort Rd. only
• Yield at the YIELD sign outside the school gate.
• Never park in the SET DOWN area. This is a pick up/drop off point for 8.50 am & 2.30 pm.
• Do not park on Double Yellow lines on St. Patrick’s Road.
• Do not park in neighbours’ driveways.

Reporting your son’s absence: All absences must be recorded in writing & sent to your son’s teacher. Please do not phone Ms Weafer to explain why your son is absent. You may find it useful to complete the absence notes on page 109 of your son’s Homework Journal.

Scríobh Leabhar/Write-A-Book: All pupils are now busy writing for the annual competition. We look forward to seeing their books on display during our Open Evening.

Green Schools: We have some new potted plants at the main entrance of the school, which look fantastic as well as a range of new equipment on the school grounds such as bird boxes, bird feeders, a ladybird tower, a mini bug hotel and a bee/insect nester. This is to help increase the biodiversity in our school grounds and our Green Schools committee will monitor this equipment. Ms Crowley’s class has also started a wormery in their classroom as part of their learning about biodiversity and how important worms are for soil and farming. Our Green Schools blog has more information and pictures of activities around the school, which fit our Green School themes so, check it out at http://hbnsgreenschools.weebly.com/

The team has played Gorey Educate Together and Johnstown School at home and won both of those rounds 4 to nil. In addition to the league team, Gorey travelled with 8 players so Harold Boys’ N.S.
