Rang IV 2012

Who influences us?

Influences by Mark Newman

My football coach influences me to play well.

He shows me how to kick,

He shows me how to pass.

He shows me how to shoulder

And he shows me how to catch.

But most of all he shows me how to laugh!

Influences by Cian Meghen

I am influenced by my Dad,

Now I always drink water!

From my Mum I am influenced,

Love and care is how you influence people!

Understanding is important.

Everyone is an influence.

No one travels alone.

Can I influence you?

Expect a miracle!

New Year Acrostic Poem

New year is here,

Exciting adventure,

When will it end?

You will be older

Every week

And every month,

Ready for Year of the Dragon!

NEWSLETTER  -  JANUARY 2012

Voluntary Contributions.  Many thanks to all who have contributed so far this year.  It is much appreciated during these difficult financial times.

Child Protection.  A copy of the Policy on Child Protection is available to parents on request.

Standardised Test Results:  An analysis of the English & Maths Drumcondra results for June 2011 showed that the scores were well above the national average.

Welcome to Cian O’Sullivan, Conor Ryan and Rory Saunders who have joined Rang 2.  We hope they will be very happy in Harold Boys’ N.S.

Carol Singing took place on December 14th.  Many thanks to Mrs. Costello for organising this, to the parents for supporting, but especially to the boys for their wonderful singing.  We made €180.

Christmas Raffle.  This was very well supported this year.  A total of €1500 was made!  Many thanks to all who contributed.

Christmas Cards.  Every child designed a card and was able to order a complete set of his own design.  These proved very popular and raised €700 for the Parents’ Association.  We look forward to this again next year.

Food Dudes.  The boys are now in Phase 2 of Food Dudes.  Teachers keep a daily record of boys who eat fruit and veg.  Boys are rewarded when they reach certain levels on the chart.  So far there has been tremendous support from home and the boys are enjoying the programme.  Keep up the healthy attitude!

Dr. Lisa Lawless spoke to Rang 5 & 6 about medicine and science and ways to treat cancer.  It was a very interesting presentation and the boys learned a lot.

The Vet Report.  Dr. Paul McCarthy talked to Rang 5 & 6 about animals, animal medicine and surgery.  He said being a vet is a very difficult but interesting job.

Biz World.  Oisín O’Donovan came to teach Rang 5 & 6 about the business world.  They used an animated website (called Kerpool) to make a movie.  They “sold shares” and made a bit of profit!  It was an informative and enjoyable venture.

Irish Board of Speech & Drama Examinations will take place on 28th February.  Boys are currently preparing for this.  It is a great opportunity for boys to increase their confidence and become better communicators.  Please send the application form and fee to the school by January 31st.

Scríobh Leabhar.  Cothaíonn an Tionscnamh le Leabhar a Scríobh deis do dhaltaí a bheith ina bhfíor údair agus iad ag cruthú a leabhar féin.  Mar chuid den phróiseas déanann said a leabhair féin a chumadh, a scríobh, a chruthú, a thógáil, a dhearadh agus a chur I láthair lucht léitheora níos leithne ná mar a bhíonn acu de ghnáth.

Goal Swim.  Rang 5 & 6 swam a total of 640 lenghts and raised €400.  Maith sibh!  Thanks to Marie Kelehan for her assistance.

Chemicals are amazing,

How? What? Why? Where? When?

Elements are interesting,

Maths is essential,

Ingenuity is important,

Space

Travel includes

Rockets,

Yearn to learn!

Christmas Poems

Christmas Poems

Santa gives toys to you

And to all children

Night is when he comes

Travelling in a sleigh

And he knows if you have been bad or good.

By Fionn O’ Kelly Loughman 2nd Class

Santa is coming to town

And he sees you when you are asleep

Never be naughty

Toys are there when you wake up

All wrapped up under the Christmas tree.

By Billy Bridgeman 2nd Class

Christmas Poem

Christ the Lord is wonderful.

He’s good in every way.

Rose to help everyday life.

Is still with us today.

Saves pain and suffering.

Today and all of night.

Mass is the way we communicate.

And still not in sight.

So we celebrate his birthday on Christmas.
