Rang V 2018

Fifth class enjoyed two wonderful nature workshops with Clare Patten (Turtle) on Killiney Hill and Killiney Beach. Clare is the Education Officer for OWLS, the nature charity. Many thanks to the Parents’ Association who funded these workshops.

Science 2018

Newsletter June 2018

Voluntary Contributions – We are hugely dependent on this contribution. Again, thanks to all who have paid recently. Contributions are welcome at any time.

Discover Primary Science & Maths – We are delighted to announce that Harold Boys’ National School has been awarded the Science Foundation Ireland Discover Primary Science & Maths Award for the 12th year running. A huge congratulations to all of our pupils, and to our fantastic school Science team. Thank you to all who helped to make our project this year such a success.

Congratulations to Rang 2 who made their First Holy Communion on 12th May. Well done to the choir for their fantastic singing. Special thanks to Ms. O’Carroll for her work with the choir. Thanks also to the Parents’ Association for the splendid catering. A special word of gratitude to the parents of Rang 3 for helping out and especially to Jennifer Meehan and Sharon Goff for coordinating events. We enjoyed our Annual Choir Picnic on Killiney Hill on May 16th. Thanks again to the Parents’ Association for providing the goodies!

Wellbeing Week 2018: The boys enjoyed Wellbeing Week which was held Monday 28th May – Friday 1st June. This week included plenty of fun-filled activities – Mindful Monday; a visit from Farmyard in your Schoolyard. Try-It Tuesday; the boys got to try plenty of fruit. They also enjoyed freshly made smoothies. Walk-It Wednesday; an organised walk took place from Cuala GAA Club to our school at 8:40am. Well done to everyone who got involved! Thankful Thursday; gratitude posters were made in each classroom to give thanks to the great people in our lives. Random acts of kindness were encouraged and mindful activities took place in each class (mindful colouring sheets, D.E.A.R. time). Thanks again to the Parents’ Association who funded these activities.

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser: On Friday 4th May we held a non-uniform day at Harold Boys’ NS to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. We managed to raise a total of €285.50! Many thanks to all who got involved on the day.

Chess News:20 pupils from our school took part in a chess competition on Tuesday 15th May against a Chess Master – Marcus Quinn. 5 boys played exceptionally well; Diarmuid Power, Cathal Power, Luca Rizzi, Leo Skinner and Dylan Hanlon, with Diarmuid Power drawing with the Master and earning a medal. Well done to everyone who took part.

Green Schools News:
Gabriel Murphy and Rory O’Mahony from our Green Schools Committee attended the DLR Tidy Schools Ceremony where we won the award for Best School with Little or No Green Space. We received the reward from An Leas-Chathaoirleach Kate Feeney of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The kind remarks about our school from Dean Eaton were lovely to hear after all our hard work. We’d like to thank everyone who keeps the school looking ship-shape with a particular thanks to our Green Schools Committee and Marvin, our caretaker. Online Payments – We would encourage all parents to pay online. Simply email info@haroldboysdalkey.ie to activate payment. You can then use this to pay for your son’s journal, photocopying, Art etc. before he returns to school in August and when making payments throughout the year.

Sports News:
Soccerthon 2018 – This is the biggest (& last) fundraiser of the year. The Parents’ Association greatly appreciate your support. Please return all monies by Friday 15th June.

Santry Athletics: Well done to our Santry Athletics team who represented the school so well on Monday 28th May. Congratulations to Daniel Noonan who made it through to his sprint final.

The Séan Ó Gorman Plaque is ours once again! Congratulations to the 5th & 6th class team who won both of their matches against The Harold School, Glasthule. The final score was 4-3 to 2-1. Well done also to the captains Christopher O’Toole, Milo Quinn, Declan Jones and Jamie Murray who did an excellent job.

Swimming: On May 20th the school swimming team took part in the Leinster Schools Swimming Gala. Daniel Noonan, Andre Fontes, Ben Kelly, and Sebastian Snyman represented Harold Boys’ NS in up to four individual events each, and two relays between them in the under 9 and under 10 age categories. The boys won gold in the boys under 10 (4 x 50 Medley relay) (Daniel, Ben, Sebastian & Andre). Well done to all!

Many, many thanks to the Parents’ Association who organised a speaker from Cyber Safe Ireland to come to our school and give a talk to parents on May 8th and fourth, fifth and sixth class pupils on May 9th. These talks were both relevant and informative.

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA) has developed two information leaflets for parents on the new Primary Language Curriculum. These leaflets are available at www.curriculumonline.ie

In addition, the National Adult Literacy Agency has information on how parents can support their children’s learning over the summer at www.helpmykidslearn.ie

Santry Athletics 2018

A great day was had this year in Morton Stadium in Santry. All of the team represented our school excellently. A huge congratulations to Dan Noonan who got through to the under 10s sprint final. Well done everyone!
