MORE GOOD NEWS FOR HAROLD BOYS' NATIONAL SCHOOL. We were successful in our recent application for a grant for school furniture. This means that all boys' desks and chairs will be replaced in the coming weeks. Other items of furniture such as additional noticeboards for displaying art work will also be put in place. We are again grateful to the Minister for Education & Science Ms Mary Hanafin for the interest she takes in our school.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION: There has been a great response again to the scheme. Thanks to John Thorne and David Lyons for the administration involved and to all who have contributed so far.

SPEECH & DRAMA EXAMINATIONS: Examiners from the Irish Board of Speech & Drama will be in Harold Boys' National School on February 7th. Pupils are busy learning poems and practising reading prose in preparation for this event. The exams will help the boys to be better communicators and increase their confidence.

BAG PACKING-took-place on December 15th. Many thanks to all the boys from 4th,.5th and 6th Class who helped and to the Parents' Association who raised €877.

ALTADORE NURSING HOME was visited by Mrs Costello and her class on December 17th. The old people_enjoyed listening to Christmas carols and tin whistle playing. Well done for giving up your free time boys !

CAROL SINGING took place on December 19th. Many thanks to Ms Costello for organising this. Thanks also to the boys who sang so brilliantly and managed to raise €682 for the Parents' Association

.
DISCOVERING D.N.A. was the subject of the talk and demonstration given by a U.C.D. scientist who came to talk to 4th and 5th Class. This was part of the U.C.D. Science Outreach initiative which endeavours to show primary school students the relevance of science in everyday life. It was both an informative and fun approach to Science. Thanks to Ms O'Carroll for organising this.

TESCO TOKENS Thanks to all who collected and sent them in and to Ms O'Carroll and Ms O'Neill who counted them. You raised 21,663 this year and we all look forward to the arrival of the sports equipment.
