Sixth Class and Greece: September 2008

Sixth class learned about Greece and the culture. Did you know that they smash plates and bowls? Macedonia, Albania and Bulgaria border Greece . The main seas are the Mediterranean sea and the Aegean sea . Greece has its own alphabet the words are like Alpha, Beta,Omega,Delta,Gamma,pi,psi,Epslion, sigma and Lamda . My mum and dad were on Skopeaus. Our teacher was in Greece, she showed us pictures of the sunset . There is an Island off Greece called Crete . Greece is one and a half times the size of Ireland. With a population of ten million.

Dylan O’Higgins

GREECE

Greece is a country in Europe. It is touching the Ionian sea, Aegean sea and the Mediterranean sea. There are hundreds of islands off the coast of Greece including Crete and Santorini. Athens is the capital of Greece. The first Olympic games were held in Athens. Delphi is the second biggest city in Greece.
The ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the centre of the world. It is told that Zeus released two eagles from opposite ends of the world and they met in Delphi.

GREECE

Three Greeks standing in the bay
Looking at sheep brunching on hay
They’re all wearing gray and all stay in the bay

The Lake Isle of Innisfree

By all cranky teachers

I shall arise and go now, go without much glee
To a small schoolhouse built there, of cement and bricks made.
Nine wild kids will I teach there, each one out to damage me,
Eight boys and one extreme loud maid.

And I shall get no piece there, just paintbombs dropping slow,
Dropping from the planes in the rafters as they pull on some strings,
My head will be all splattered, my nose a purple glow,
My jacket like a parrots wings.

I should arise and go now, but there can be no way,
I hear loo water lapping then it burst through the door,
While I stand on my desktop, the pupils laugh and say,
At least your life is not a bore!

Holes is a great book .
Open the book to a great adventure
Louis Sachar is the author of the book
Even the book is famous
Stanley Yelnats is the main character By Andrew Marsh
The Poem of Holes

In Texas there is a desert
In it what could there be.
In it is camp green lake
You only have to be there to see.

Stanley is there
His second name is Yelnats.
He digs a hole every day
He does without any pay.

And that is what happens
In a book called Holes.

By Kenneth Gaffney

STANLEY YELNATS DIGING HOLES
IN THE MIDDLE OF A DESERT.
SPECIAL TREASURE LIES BELOW THE GROUND
BURIED IN THE SAND
MADE A CAMP DIGING HOLES TO GET IT
ONE BY ONE THEY DIG HOLES
FIVE FEET DEEP FIVE FEET ACROSS

BY REES RINGROSE

HOLES

Boys stay digging under the boiling sun,

Many would think, they’re doing it for fun.

But these boys no, no they are not,

It would be crazy, to stay out, when its so hot.

They dig many holes, in the dried up lake,

Digging and Digging, because of their mistake.

At Camp Green Lake prison, they stay for years,

Digging and Digging, until their conscience clears.
