Trip to Airfield
21st of November 2007
“Country heart- city home”, kindly sponsored by Dalkey Tidy Towns and Harold Parents Association.
We went to Airfield farm for a school tour, they told us lots of interesting facts. First we arrived at school at ten to nine, then we walked up to Cuala where two tour buses were waiting for us. Fourth and Second had to share but we got our own. The bus ride was boring but in about forty minutes we finally arrived at Airfield farm. First we went to the “Classroom”, on our way we saw two ponies and we thought one of them was dead but then he got up, and the other one…well you don’t want to know what we saw on that one!
In the classroom they told us about how Airfield started and a lot about fungus. Then they told us to take out our little break, so we did.
After break it was time to split up into three groups. Our tour guide was called Sheelagh, the others were called Joyce and Val. First we went to see the old house and trees, they were squishy, then we went to a field where there was a pony called Bruce and two donkeys called Michael and Smokey Joe. We fed them but when I tried to feed Michael I think he preferred my hand, because he wasn’t eating the food but my hand.
Then… well I don’t really remember what order we did things in but we saw a huge poo and geese. We started hissing at them and they got annoyed, then we ran away and went to the other side, then we called them. They looked like they were running a marathon. We fed rosehips to pigs and saw bee hives, and we also saw a frog, and we milked a fake cow but water came out. We had big break, saw other stuff and went home. I had a great time in Airfield farm.

3rd Class
First we went to the school and into our class. Then we all lined up in the class room getting ready to walk down to Cula to get our coach. We got on our coach and in half an hour we got to Airfield. I had a great time. First we were going to the very old trees, one was very soft and the other was very hard. Then we saw the playhouse and we moved on. Then we saw the red berries on the holy, Sheelagh told us to open the red berry, take the seed out and stick it onto your top and we moved on. Then we went to see the horses. Then we went to the rosehip tree to pick a rosehip to give it to the pigs for them it would be like a little smartie. I threw my rosehip for the pigs but they did not eat it so I gave them some apple and they ate it. Their names were Betty and Prudence. Then we went to the potato field the potatoes had a disease called blight. Then we went to the barn which was quite smelly. Then we saw Eamonn the Farmer as we were walking by we saw a huge poo so we called it the ‘King Poo’. Then we were heading back to the classroom to get our big break, but before we got our lunch we were milking the pretend wooden cow and when we were finished we had to wash our hands. Then we went into see the cars. First there was a Rolls Royce car, then we saw a Austin Tickford then we saw a Peugeot then we saw a Ford. Then we got our coach back home.
We walked down to Cuala to get a bus to Airfield. The journey was fun but
long. We eventually got to airfield and went into a big room. It was filled
with chairs for just about everyone. They talked to us about the purpose
of nature. Every animal had job. Then we split into 2 groups. I thought
that we would feed the chickens but we went to look at the house. It was
HUGE. We then went to feed the donkeys and their names were Smoky-Joe and
Michael. Then we went for a run. We fed the ponies. We saw a frog! It was
s very slow one! After that we had our lunch. Then we saw the cars. Every
member of the family had a car. They had their own petrol station. We then
fed the chickens. It was so exciting. I loved it! My neighbour is the leader
of Dalkey Tidy Towns. This has been a very good school tour. I would like
to thank Tidy Towns and the Parents Association.
